Sinotech Engineering Services, LTD. Visits Japan’s Sewage Works Exhibition

Sinotech Engineering Services, LTD. sent a delegation to Japan from July 29 to August 2, 2025, to attend the country’s largest sewerage exhibition and visit key facilities, including the Ebie Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Osaka Sewerage Science Museum, and the Toyosaki Chayamachi Main Sewer project.

The exhibition highlighted Japan’s struggle with heavier rainfall from climate change and the pressures of an ageing, shrinking population. Solutions on display ranged from pipeline renewal and the use of AI to cut costs, to public-private partnerships and sludge resource recovery.

At Ebie, space constraints have prompted compact design: high-rate filtration replaces conventional pretreatment, and co-located units maximize efficiency. In Osaka, the museum uses interactive exhibits to raise public awareness. At Toyosaki Chayamachi, a 39-metre-deep sewer shaft, built with the pneumatic caisson method and remote-control excavation, underscored Japan’s technical innovation.

The visit offered Sinotech valuable lessons in both technology and practice, strengthening its outlook for future planning and design.
