To facilitate the collaboration between Taiwan and other countries on the issue of resource recycling, our President, Sun Shi-King, and the Director-General of the Department of Waste Management of the EPA, Lai Yin-yin, lead a delegation of more than 30 officials and professionals to attend the "International Solid Waste Association World Congress 2022 " in Singapore from September 21st to September 23rd. The delegation gave a keynote speech on the Policies and Development of Resource Recycling in Taiwan” and set up a Taiwan Pavilion in the venue to exhibit the innovation and technology of Taiwanese enterprises in resource recycling.

Taiwan, in line with the rest of the world, is aiming to achieve the net-zero transition by 2050. On March 30, 2022, "Taiwan's Pathway to Net-Zero Emission in 2050 " was announced, which includes 12 key strategies, of which resource recycling and zero waste are one of them. In 2021, Taiwan's domestic waste recycling rate reached 62.5%, and the recycling rate of industrial waste reached 85.4%. Based on this good foundation, Taiwan strives to achieve sustainable consumption and production, optimum resource utilization efficiency, and value-added waste processing. The planning and promotion strategies include green design, source reduction, energy and resource reuse, a smooth circulation network, and innovative technology and policies.

This year, Taiwan was invited to organize a delegation to attend this special annual international waste disposal event. Through keynote speeches and setting up the Taiwan Pavilion exhibition area, Taiwan's experience in resource recycling was shared and has strengthened our bond with the international community.

Lai Yin-yin, Director-General of the Department of Waste Management, said, “The theme of this year's conference is "Don't Waste Our Future". By inviting global experts and engaging in in-depth discussions on waste recycling, human health, and environmental safety, we’ve taken this opportunity to exchange ideas and regulation practices among participating countries. These experience can be used as an important reference for Taiwan’s policy planning. The EPA will follow the goal of net zero emissions, actively promote resource recycling, and create a zero-waste and sustainable environment for future generations.”

During the exhibition, President Sun Shi-king and members of the delegation participated in various sharing sessions to learn about the practices, achievements, and future plans of resource recycling around the world. In addition, the Taiwan Pavilion exhibited innovative technologies of Taiwanese enterprises investing in resource recycling, including plastics reuse and recycling, solid recovered fuel process and application, hazardous waste treatment, heavy metal recovery, incineration, and electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance. In addition to communicating with companies and experts from various countries and learning international technology trends, the exhibition also creates cooperation opportunities among the attending parties, enabling Taiwan's resource recycling technology and industries to develop into the global market.
